Kemy river

Kem is one of the largest rivers of Karelia, occurring in its Northern part and a length of 191 km. Its source is in the lake Bottom Kuito, although it is believed that it is more correct to consider the beginning of Kemi from the beginning of its main tributary – river Chirko-Kem. The mainstream of Kemi lies through the picturesque Karelian forest, extensive swamps and lakes, also on the coast there are settlements. At the confluence of rivers in the White sea is the historic town of Kem. In previous years the river had many waterfalls, but they all disappeared after the construction of several hydropower plants. However, in it there are many interesting rapids, so the rest on the river Kem and its tributaries Chirko-Kem is still very popular with tourists-water-transport workers. In addition, river waters are home to a variety of fish: pike, trout, perch, bream, whitefish, IDE, roach and other species, so fishing is also popular. And the surrounding forests are rich in different types of fungi and Northern berries.
