Ostrovsky district

Ostrovsky district is in the Western part of the Pskov region and is a picturesque area with forest and swampy areas and many villages. The district was formed in 1920-e years, and its administrative center, city Island, is known since XIV century. In the old days there was Ostrovskaya fortress, today it was only the Church of St. Nicholas, built in the XVI century. Besides it, the Island and its surroundings have preserved temples in later centuries – for example, Vvedensky monastery with Holy springs, situated in the tract vladimirets. Also through the district several rivers, the largest and most picturesque of which is the Great river, a vacation in Ostrov district can be devoted not only informative walks, but also measured the leisure activities in nature.
